Gandhinagar. An unusual sea movement was observed in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast, which surprised both fishermen and the administration. Fishermen from Palghar district submitted some videos to the administration, in which sea water is seen boiling and bubbles coming out. White foam and large bubbles were rising on the surface of the water, making it appear as if the sea was ‘boiling’. The head of Palghar District Disaster Management Cell said that this incident is extremely unusual and there is a need for a thorough investigation. He said that this area is near sea transport routes and major fishing areas, hence it is necessary to maintain vigilance in the area. The administration has warned ships and fishing boats passing in the area to exercise more caution. The head of the District Disaster Management Cell has given three main reasons for the possible reasons for the disturbance. First, gas leakage, natural gas leakage under the sea can cause bubbles in the water. Second, pipeline failures, there are many underwater pipelines of oil and gas companies (such as ONGC) in the region, which can develop pressure cracks if they occur. Third, the temperature and pressure of water can change due to geological activities, movements on the sea floor, small earthquakes or volcanic activities.
Experts have also pointed out four major dangers regarding this incident. The biggest concern is submarine gas leaks, which could cause fire or explosion. Second, the sudden release of methane clathrates deposited on the ocean floor, which can cause the water to appear to boil. Third, volcanic or tectonic activities, which indicate cracks or movements in oceanic plates. Fourth, leakage of industrial waste, although the intensity of the bubbles makes this less likely. Maritime safety agencies and the Coast Guard are investigating whether the incident is the result of natural geological changes or is related to some industrial activity. The administration has increased vigilance in the area and directed all ships and fishing boats passing in the sea to stay away from this hotspot.
