FASTag Users KYC Rules: National Highway Authority of India has given big relief to the drivers. NHAI has decided to end the Fastag KYV (Know Your Vehicle) process from 1 February 2026. The purpose of this decision is to protect users from unnecessary harassment after Fastag activation.
KYV necessary in some cases
NHAI has made it clear that now it will not be necessary to do KYV regularly even on Fastags already issued for cars. Even after the change in this rule, KYV will be required only in some special cases. These include complaints related to FASTag being loose, wrongly issued or misused. According to NHAI, if there is no complaint related to FASTag, then KYV process would not have been implemented on the existing car FASTag. Also, NHAI has further strengthened the pre-activation validation process for banks issuing FASTag.
What is the arrangement so far?
KYV was a verification process for Fastag users, which ensured that the Fastag was installed on the same vehicle for which it was issued. This will prevent misuse of toll tax, commercial vehicles will not be able to use Fastag of non-commercial vehicles. For KYV, vehicle owners had to upload their vehicle registration certificate and photo of the vehicle. This process was repeated every 3 years, and it was also necessary to keep FASTag active. Drivers will now get relief from this.
