Now the name of the caller will be visible on calls coming from unknown numbers.

What is CNAP?—This question is in discussion among telecom users these days. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is preparing to implement Calling Name Presentation i.e. CNAP technology in India. Through this new feature, now even when a call comes from an unknown number, the verified name of the caller will be visible on the mobile screen. That means there will be no need to save the number to see the name of the caller. CNAP has been approved in October 2025 and is likely to be available to general users by April 2026.

After getting the approval, live testing of CNAP has been started from November 2025. Currently it is being rolled out as a trial on different networks. Telecom companies have started testing it on limited networks for 4G and 5G smartphone users, so that its performance can be tested in real conditions. If this trial is successful, then in future the old networks will also be included in it. TRAI has also instructed smartphone companies to provide CNAP support in new devices.

What is CNAP? And what will be its biggest benefit? In fact, in the last few years, cases of fake calls, tele-scams and cyber frauds have increased rapidly. For this reason people avoid picking up calls from unknown numbers. TRAI believes that if the correct and verified name of the caller is shown along with the call, then the cases of fraud will reduce to a great extent.

The special thing about CNAP is that its data source will be completely reliable. It will take the caller name directly from the KYC-verified records of the telecom companies. The name that is registered on official documents like Aadhaar while getting the SIM, the same name will appear on the screen during the call. overall, What is CNAP? The answer is that this technology is a big step towards making calling more secure and transparent.
