Karachi. Pakistan plans to send troops to Palestine (Gaza) to become part of the International Stabilization Force (IFS). The Pakistan government wants its army to become a part of the Gaza Stabilization Force. Most of the soldiers in this force are soldiers from Muslim majority countries. Responsibilities of this force: maintaining internal security, ensuring that Hamas is disarmed, protecting border crossings, delivering humanitarian aid to the people, monitoring the reconstruction of buildings in Gaza.
On the advice of the US administration, this force may include armies of countries like Indonesia, UAE (United Arab Emirates), Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and Azerbaijan. Indonesia, Pakistan and Azerbaijan are considered to be the main contributors to the IFS. Indonesia has publicly offered to send 20,000 troops. At the same time, Israel has objected to Turkey joining this force and said that it will decide which countries will be allowed to enter Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had also spoken of opposing the role of Turkish security forces. According to Israeli media reports, the Netanyahu administration has made it clear that the Pakistani army will only maintain peace and order in Gaza and will not take part in any conflict. It is believed that with this step Pakistan wants to establish itself as a strong country in the Islamic world. Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir is taking interest in this initiative. The matter is currently under discussion between the Pakistan government and the military, and there have been indications that the government is in favor of participating. This International Stabilization Force is an important part of the US-brokered Gaza peace agreement.
