Patna. Bihar, which till now was looking towards the Center for the use of Ganga water, may get sharing of Ganga water for the first time. Bihar is likely to be given permission to use 900 cusecs of Ganga water by the Centre. If this happens, it will be the first time that Bihar will officially get a stipulated share in the water of river Ganga. Till now there has been no fixed quota for Bihar in Ganga water. However, Bihar had asked for a share of at least 2000 cusecs of Ganga river water.
The internal committee of the Union Jal Shakti Ministry has recommended giving 900 cusecs of water to Bihar. In its report, it has talked about providing water to Bihar in the five months immediately before the monsoon during the dry period. The period from January to May is considered the dry season, when the Ganga is at its most deficient in water. However, the final decision on this report of the internal committee of the Ministry of Jal Shakti has not been taken yet. But, after the report of the committee, the way for supply of Ganga water has definitely opened.
Recently, Bihar had expressed its objection to the pattern of giving water to Bangladesh. Water Resources Minister Vijay Chaudhary and Principal Secretary Santosh Kumar Mall had also held a meeting with the Union Jal Shakti Ministry in this regard. At that time Bihar had also expressed its desire to become a party to the treaty this time.
