Islamabad. In Pakistan, Punjab province has always had dominance in everything from army, bureaucracy to politics. There has been a huge rebellion in Balochistan regarding this and such incidents often come to light in which people of Punjabi origin are targeted and killed. Meanwhile, another controversy has arisen in Pakistan. There is a shortage of flour from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Sindh province and the governments of both the states are accusing Punjab of withholding the wheat stock. Due to lack of supply, shortage of flour has arisen in their states.
Due to this, inflation has increased and the poor people have to pay a heavy price for two meals a day. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government raised questions over disruption of inter-state movement of wheat. The government said that brakes have been applied on the supply chain from Punjab’s side. Due to this, the prices of flour are increasing in his state and food security is in crisis. Apart from this, the PPP government of Sindh province has also attacked Punjab.
According to media reports, the Sindh provincial government says that the Punjab administration has stopped the supply of wheat seeds. Due to this, wheat production in Sindh may be affected in the coming crop cycle. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has written a letter to Punjab, in which it has been said that the brake on the supply of wheat should be removed. If this does not happen then our food security will be in danger. It was said in the letter that there is shortage of wheat in our state. We are dependent on Punjab and we need 14,500 tonnes of wheat per day. The Pakhtunkhwa government said that in such a situation, if the supply chain from Punjab is disrupted, there will be a food shortage and there will be chaos in the market. Not only this, the Constitution of Pakistan has also been cited on behalf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Pakhtunkhwa government said the Constitution guarantees that inter-state movement of any goods or production will take place and cannot be impeded. The state government said that at present the quota of supply of 2000 tonnes of wheat has been fixed for us by Punjab, it is very less. Our need is up to 7 times more than this. On behalf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, it has been said that we have sent messages several times, but the ban on supply remains the same. Doing so is a violation of the Constitution. In such a situation, regional harmony in Punjab may also be in danger, where there is already dissatisfaction among other states regarding the dominance of Punjab.
