Kiren Rijiju, Parliamentary Affairs Minister in the Modi government, claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has no interest in the functioning of Parliament, he only disrupts the work of the House. Union Minister Rijiju said that some NGOs have taught Rahul Gandhi that “good days” will come for his party, hence he is busy only in making issues. Union Minister Rijiju said, Rahul Gandhi has no interest in the proceedings of the House. They are only interested in making issues. Their time is unlikely, and their seats will be further reduced in the next election. He said the ruling coalition had made several attempts to calm the situation with the opposition, but no additional steps would be taken now to placate the Congress. The Union Minister said that the Congress is desperate as the party is continuously losing elections and is desperate to change the situation. He claimed that smaller parties are unhappy with Rahul Gandhi and some have not even signed the resolution against the president. Rijiju said, the entire opposition is not with Congress. Small parties are not able to make proper use of their time and they want the functioning of the House to continue.
There were continuous disruptions and adjournments in the Lok Sabha in the first part of the budget session. Actually, Rahul Gandhi wanted to cite an article based on the unpublished memoir of former Army Chief MM Naravane, but the Lok Sabha Speaker stopped him from mentioning it. After this, eight members of the opposition were suspended for the remaining session for indiscipline in the House.
After this, the opposition also presented a no-confidence motion against Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and accused him of biased conduct. The Lok Sabha Speaker recused himself from presiding over the House a few hours later. The budget session of Parliament began on 28 January with President Draupadi Murmu’s address, and Budget 2026 was presented on 1 February. The second phase of the session will run from March 9 to April 2.
