Statement of PM Modi and President Macron on India-France relations, indicating a new chapter of cooperation

Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron at Lok Bhawan in South Mumbai. The discussions between Modi and Macron will focus on strengthening strategic ties and expanding them into new and emerging areas. The two leaders will also discuss issues of regional and global importance and review the progress made in the India-France strategic partnership.

President Macron is on an official visit to India from 17 to 19 February at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi. He will participate in the ‘AI Impact Summit’ held in India and hold a bilateral summit with Modi in Mumbai.

This is President Macron’s fourth visit to India and first visit to Mumbai. Earlier in the day, Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis welcomed him at the Mumbai airport.

Earlier, French President Emmanuel Macron reached Mumbai early on Tuesday and started his day with ‘jogging’ on Marine Drive near Coastal Road. Macron and first lady Brigitte Macron later laid floral tributes to those killed in the November 2008 terror attack at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel in south Mumbai. Macron started the day with ‘jogging’ on Marine Drive, accompanied by his security personnel. Mumbai Police had also maintained tight security in the surrounding area.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday that India is excited about the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron and taking bilateral relations to new heights. Modi said this while commenting on a ‘post’ of Macron on ‘X’.
