Chennai. A statement related to politics and film industry became a big controversy in Chennai, when Bharatiya Janata Party’s Tamil Nadu unit President Nayanar Nagendran made comments about actress Trisha Krishnan. Nagendran had to issue a public apology following a strong reaction on social media.
Trisha’s name dragged while commenting on Vijay
The controversy started when Nagendran targeted actor and Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s political activism. He sarcastically said that Vijay should “first come out of Trisha’s house” to succeed in politics. The comment quickly went viral and was described as personal and disrespectful.
Said in apology – “The words came out unknowingly.”
Nagendran, who is also the MLA from Tirunelveli assembly constituency, later clarified that his statement was made by mistake and he expressed regret if anyone’s sentiments were hurt. He also told that he had discussed this issue with party leaders Vanathi Srinivasan and K. Discussed with Annamalai.
Trisha’s strong reaction, distanced herself from politics
Trisha, in a statement issued through her lawyer, called the comments “indecent and unnecessary.” She clarified that she has no affiliation with any political party and has always stayed away from politics. The actress said that she should be known only for her cinema works and not be dragged into political controversies. Trisha and Vijay have previously worked together in several films, including hits like Ghilli, but have denied any political affiliations between the two.
Opposition also expressed objection
Opposition parties also reacted to the controversy. Many leaders, including Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Kanimozhi, condemned the statement, calling it disrespectful towards women. Congress leaders also raised questions on bringing the name of the film actress in the political debate.
Debate continues even after apology
Although the controversy has subsided somewhat after Nagendran’s apology, the incident has sparked a new debate on personal comments, celebrity influence and propriety of political discourse in Tamil Nadu politics. Even on social media, a large number of users termed such statements as inappropriate.
