There was bloodshed in America a thousand years ago, Vikings came via Greenland

bikeWashington. US President Donald Trump’s interest in Greenland has once again awakened and he has started talking about occupying this Nordic country. Donald Trump’s rhetoric has enraged almost all the Nordic and Scandinavian countries, including Denmark and Greenland. The Nordic countries are Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Finland, Denmark. Nordic means north. The conflict between America and Nordic countries is not new. The story behind this starts 1 thousand years ago. Even before Columbus, people from Nordic countries had set foot on the American continent and it was this land where Canada is today.

The people of these countries were called Vikings and they were very explorers and brave. They had rule over the sea. Many of these groups also belonged to robbers. The work of the Vikings was to search for lands by sea and plunder the people living there. They tried to take permanent possession there. However, if there was no benefit in settling there, they would leave with valuables.

These Vikings, people living in the Scandinavian lands (Denmark, Sweden, Norway), also discovered Greenland and settled here. At present, the Nordic countries are culturally connected to each other and come together in times of crisis. Nordic countries say America should be kicked out of NATO. In such a situation, experts say that once again Vikings are starting from the northern lands.

Bloodshed of Vikings in America

Today tension is increasing in America and Nordic countries. If we turn the pages of history, a thousand years ago the Vikings had caused a lot of bloodshed in America. According to reports, Leif Erikson and his companions had reached American soil for the first time. Around the year 1000, there was a fierce conflict between the Vikings and the Native Americans. The Vikings plundered America extensively and many of them also started living there. After this the Vikings started visiting American lands.

Leif Erikson’s father Eric the Red was quite violent and because of his habits he was declared a fugitive by Norway and Iceland. Only after this Eric left for Greenland with his group. Many generations of Eric continued to explore the Green Land. Eric’s relations with the natives were initially cordial, however when it came to trade and plunder, relations began to deteriorate. Eric also had enmity with the Native Americans. The Norse people started killing the natives there. After this the bloodshed started. What happened later was that the natives of America drove away the Vikings and they returned again. However, other Viking groups started coming to America.

The Vikings were fierce, yet they could not establish their settlement in North America. Ultimately they settled in Greenland. After this the people of North America started attacking Greenland. This caused a lot of damage to the settlements there. Even today, Greenland’s tension with America is increasing. All the Nordic countries are standing with Green Land. Norway’s Prime Minister has said that Greenland is an integral part of Denmark. Denmark is mainly divided into three parts. It is in mainland Europe. It consists of several large islands such as Funen and Bornholm. The second part is Greenland which is the largest island in the world and is between the Atlantic and the Arctic Ocean. It is a part of North America. Although politically it is called the Kingdom of Denmark. The third part is the Faroe Islands which is in the North Atlantic Sea. It is an autonomous region. Greenland’s border of about one and a half kilometers is also connected with an island in Canada.

Greenland is far away from Denmark

Greenland is very important because of its sea routes and natural resources. The population here is very less. Only about 50 thousand people live on such a large land. The livelihood of the people here depends on fishing. At the same time, subsidy is given here by the Danish government. The distance from Greenland’s capital Nuuk to Copenhagen is approximately 3.5 thousand kilometers.
