Trump’s ultimatum on peace plan – Zelensky at a difficult juncture

There is a war going on between Russia and Ukraine for a long time. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has reportedly prepared a 28-point peace plan. Now regarding this peace plan, Ukrainian President Voldomir Zelensky while addressing his country on Friday said that Ukraine may have to take an important decision.

Zelensky said that Ukraine must either stand up for its sovereign rights or maintain the US support it needs. This address came at a time when world leaders are discussing a US peace proposal, which is believed to be in Russia’s favor.

Russia welcomed the plan
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin cautiously welcomed the US proposal. This includes many of Russia’s long-standing demands, while providing limited security guarantees for Ukraine. Putin said it could form the basis of an eventual peace deal, and accused Ukraine of opposing the plan and setting impossible expectations.

The plan would require Ukraine to cede some territory to Russia — which Kiev has repeatedly rejected — as well as reduce the size of its military and halt its ambitious path to NATO membership.

Speaking at a meeting of Russia’s National Security Council, Putin called the plan a new version and modernized plan that was discussed with the US ahead of the Alaska summit with Trump in August. He said that Moscow has achieved this plan. I am confident that this can also become the basis of a final peace agreement, he said.

But, Putin said that the text of this proposal has not been discussed with us in any concrete way and I can guess why. He further said that so far Washington has failed to get Ukraine’s consent. Putin said, Ukraine is against it. Obviously, Ukraine and its European allies are still delusional and dreaming of strategically defeating Russia on the battlefield.

What did Zelensky say?
In his address, Zelensky did not reject the plan outright, but called for fair treatment and said he would work with Washington and other partners in a peaceful manner. He called it one of the most difficult moments in our history.

Zelensky said he met US Vice President J.D. Trump for about an hour on Friday. Discussed peace proposal with Vance and Army Secretary Dan Driscoll.

Currently, the pressure on Ukraine is at its highest, Zelensky said in his recorded speech. Ukraine may now face a very difficult decision. Either lose your dignity or risk losing a major partner.

Trump gave ultimatum
Trump said that Zelensky would have to accept the US proposal and if he does not do so, then perhaps he should just keep fighting. Trump said in a radio interview on Friday that he wanted answers from Zelensky on his 28-point plan, whose deadline is Thursday, but that the deadline could be extended to finalize terms.

European countries supported
Zelensky earlier spoke by phone with the leaders of Germany, France and the United Kingdom, who guaranteed him their continued support for Ukraine. Keir Starmer said that Ukraine’s right to decide its own future under its sovereignty is a fundamental principle.

Ukrainian officials said they were considering the US proposals, and Zelensky said he hoped to discuss them with Trump in the coming days.
