Kolkata . The condition of two people became critical on the spot after a heavy iron rod fell from a multi-storey building adjacent to the Municipal Corporation in Howrah city of West Bengal. They were later declared dead in the hospital. This accident happened on Tuesday afternoon when welding work was going on in the said multi-storey trade centre. The deceased have been identified as Sheikh Irfan and Khokan. According to the police, welding work of iron rods was being done near the stairs of the building since morning. Meanwhile suddenly a heavy rod fell down. Many people were present under the building at that time.
Local people said that many traders keep their goods in this trade centre. On the day of the accident, there was a market in Mangalahat, Howrah. Hat trader Sheikh Irfan along with his friend Khokan had reached the building to keep the goods, when an iron rod falling from above fell on his head.
Both were taken to Howrah State General Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared them dead.
There was chaos in the area after the accident. On receiving the information, Howrah police station reached the spot and started investigation. When the police reached the roof of the building, iron rods and other construction materials were found scattered there.
