GorakhpurChief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon all universities and colleges to adopt any one sport and groom the talents related to it. Contribute to strengthening discipline and sportsmanship by providing healthy competition through sports. CM Yogi was addressing the formal inauguration ceremony of the Eastern Region Inter University Basketball (Women) Competition at Deendayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University as the chief guest on Friday. The Chief Minister said that by increasing sports activities the youth will stay away from drugs and will be saved from all the vices. If the youth plays, they will blossom, and this youth will contribute in taking the country forward and realizing the concept of developed India by 2047. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that Uttar Pradesh has made a lot of efforts in the campaign to make a developed India through sports also. The first sports university of the state has been built in Meerut. All types of sports items are being manufactured in Meerut and the government has included it in ODOP. CM Yogi said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a new sports culture has been born in the country in the last 11 years. Before 2014, sports activities and competitions were not part of the government’s agenda. Sports and players were neglected. Due to lack of infrastructure as per international standards, players were forced to flee the game. Were frustrated, disappointed and disappointed. Whereas since 2014, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the encouragement of sports and players is visible. PM Modi has inspired a healthy and strong nation through campaigns like Khelo India, Fit India and Sansad Sports Competition. Sports talents have been given a platform in every village. The Prime Minister himself sits with the players of the country’s winning teams in various sports and encourages them even before the competition.
All means of life will be obtained only from a healthy body.
The Chief Minister said that India’s ancient tradition has always given importance to sports. Quoting ‘Shariramadyaam Khalu Dharmasadhanam’, the proclamation of India’s sage tradition, the Chief Minister said that all the resources of life can be obtained only from a healthy body. To keep the body healthy, one will have to engage in sports activities. We will have to pay attention to the body through rules, restraint and discipline. Only a healthy body will provide inspiration to strengthen the society and nation. The Chief Minister expressed happiness over the fact that many families have made sports a part of life. He said that in many states there is no discrimination between sons and daughters. Today, if a child (son or daughter) shows interest in sports, the parents encourage them and arrange resources accordingly.
UP increased sports infrastructure
CM Yogi said that sports infrastructure has been expanded on a large scale in Uttar Pradesh. The work of constructing sports grounds and open gyms in every gram panchayat of the state, mini stadiums at the block level and stadiums at the district level has progressed on a war footing. To ensure that sports activities do not remain informal but become a part of daily routine, the government has distributed sports kits to more than 96,000 Yuvak Mangal Dals and Mahila Mangal Dals.
Government jobs given to more than 500 players
Referring to the government’s readiness to encourage the players, the Chief Minister said that the government gives Rs 10 lakh to the players of the state participating in the Olympics. A provision has been made to give a prize of Rs 6 crore and a class one job to the gold medal winner in the Olympic singles event. The UP player who wins the gold medal in the team event of the Olympics is given a prize of Rs 3 crore and the silver medal winner in the singles event is also given a prize of Rs 3 crore. Similarly, cash prizes are also given to Olympic bronze medal winners and medal winners of Asiad, Commonwealth Games and World Championships. The Chief Minister said that till now the state government has given direct government jobs to more than 500 medal winning players. Players have also been appointed to the posts of Deputy SP, Tehsildar and Regional Sports Officer.
Prepare according to Commonwealth and Olympics
The Chief Minister said that the 2030 Commonwealth Games will be held in Gujarat. Every state and players will have to prepare themselves accordingly. India is also applying to host the 2036 Olympic Games. Preparations will have to be made from now to win more medals in Commonwealth and Olympics.
Greeted the players on the ground of Guru Gorakshanath
In his address, CM Yogi welcomed and congratulated the women basketball players who came from 14 states of the country including the state, at the holy place of worship of Guru Gorakhnath. Describing Gorakhpur as a land rich in spiritual, cultural and historical heritage, he also explained the importance of the Chauri Chaura incident in the freedom movement and the importance of ‘Geeta Press’, the world’s largest publishing center of Vedic literature. Besides mentioning the connection of this district in some form or the other with immortal fighters Pandit Ramprasad Bismil and Bandhu Singh, he described Gorakhpur as the birthplace of the great novelist Munshi Premchand. The Chief Minister said that Gorakhpur is the sacred land of many personalities. During the stage program, the Chief Minister also released the sports brochure of Gorakhpur University Sports Council.

Before the stage program, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath formally inaugurated the competition by releasing balloons and cutting the ribbon in the basketball court. He himself also tossed the ball in the basketball court. The Chief Minister also got introduced to the players of Gorakhpur University and Shaheed Nandkumar Patel University, Raigarh. After the completion of the stage program, CM Yogi watched the first half of the match and encouraged the players by clapping.
