‘Vocal for Local’ echoes across the country, sales worth Rs 6 lakh crore recorded on Diwali

New Delhi: Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has released a report, according to which there has been a record breaking sale on Diwali. People have bought Indian things extensively. Goods worth Rs 5.40 lakh crore have been sold, while business worth Rs 65,000 thousand crore has been done in services. This bumper sale on Diwali shows India’s economic strength and indigenous spirit.

The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) research report on Diwali festival sales 2025 is based on an extensive nationwide survey conducted across 60 major distribution centers including state capitals and Tier 2 and 3 cities. According to the report, total sales on Diwali this year reached a record ₹6.05 lakh crore, which includes ₹5.40 lakh crore in goods and ₹65,000 crore in services. This is the highest festival business ever in the business history of India. Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Delhi’s Chandni Chowk and general secretary of CAIT, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emerged as a ‘strong brand ambassador’ of GST rationalization and indigenous adoption, which has inspired both the business community and consumers.

Khandelwal said that the Prime Minister’s ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Swadeshi Diwali’ slogans have greatly influenced the people. 87% consumers preferred Indian made goods over foreign goods, i.e. 87 out of 100 people bought Indian goods, due to which there was a huge decline in the demand for Chinese goods. Traders have recorded an increase of 25% in the sales of Indian made products as compared to last year. Khandelwal said the business figures for Diwali 2025 show a growth of 25% compared to last year’s sales of ₹4.25 lakh crore. Non-corporate and traditional markets contributed 85% of the total trade.

CAT National President B. C. Bhartia gave information about the sale of major festival items. According to him, Grocery & FMCG 12%, Gold & Jewelery 10%, Electronics & Electricals 8%, Consumer Durables 7%, Readymade Garments 7%, Gift Products 7%, Home Decor 5%, Furnishings & Furniture, 5% Sweets & Namkeen 5%, Textiles & Fabrics 4%, Pooja Samagri 3%, Fruits & Dry Fruits 3%, Bakery & Confectionery 3%, shoes 2%, other goods, 19% of the total trade.

He further said that the expansion of the service sector has resulted in a profit of ₹65,000 crore. An estimated ₹65,000 crore of revenue was generated from retail trade as well as services like packaging, hospitality, cab service, travel, event management, tents and decorations, manpower and delivery, indicating the widespread impact of the festive economy across various sectors.
