KOLKATA – The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) is finalizing the scores for the 2026 Madhyamik (Class 10) examinations. With the evaluation of answer scripts across all districts now complete, the board is expected to host a formal press conference at Dera Bhavan next week to announce the results and release the much-anticipated merit list.
Understanding the 2026 Marking Scheme
This year, the WBBSE has implemented a revised marking scheme aimed at bringing the state board closer to national standards like the CBSE. The final score is a composite of the written board examination (90 marks per subject) and internal formative assessments (10 marks per subject).
A key highlight for 2026 is the refined “Analytical Weightage” system. Rather than rewarding rote memorization, examiners have been instructed to give more credit for “conceptual clarity” and “structural accuracy” in long-form answers, particularly in History, Geography, and Life Science.
The Policy on Grace Marks
In a move to support students who may have struggled with the transition to the new curriculum, the board has clarified its stance on grace marks:

Marginal Failures: Students who fall short by 2% to 3% in a single subject may be considered for grace marks to reach the passing threshold of 25%, provided their performance in other subjects is satisfactory.

Objective Parity: If any specific set of question papers was found to be disproportionately difficult after statistical analysis, the board applies a “normalization” process to ensure no student is at a disadvantage based on their exam center’s paper set.
Accessing Results and Scrutiny
Once the results are live at wbresults.nic.in, students can view their subject-wise marks. The WBBSE has also announced that the window for Post Publication Scrutiny (PPS) and Post Publication Review (PPR) will open within 48 hours of the result declaration. This allows students who are unsatisfied with their scores to request a re-totaling or a complete re-evaluation of their papers for a nominal fee.
Distribution of Marksheets
To prevent overcrowding, marksheets and certificates will be distributed to school heads from designated camp offices on the day of the result. Students can collect their physical documents from their respective schools the following morning.
“Our teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure that the evaluation is fair and transparent,” said a WBBSE official. “The 2026 batch has shown remarkable adaptability, and we expect the results to reflect that growth.”
