New Delhi. Customs Department officials foiled an attempt at gold smuggling at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Officials have recovered about 997.5 grams of gold from a female passenger, whose value in the market is said to be in lakhs. This action was taken on Friday, when the female passenger reached Delhi from Yangon (Myanmar) via flight number 8M 620.
According to the agency, the woman was trying to exit the green channel of the airport. This channel is for those passengers who do not have any restricted or dutiable goods. But when the officers looked at the woman, they became suspicious. After this he was searched.
During the investigation, when the custom officials conducted a personal search of the woman, it was revealed that she had hidden six gold bars in her undergarments. When these gold bricks were taken out, their total weight came out to be 997.5 grams. The Customs Department immediately seized these gold bricks and registered a case and initiated action.
Officials said that the recovered gold has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Under this Act, bringing gold or other valuable items into or out of the country without declaring it is considered a serious crime. Now further investigation is being done in this matter, so that it can be found out whether this woman is connected to any trafficking gang or not.
Delhi Customs Department has issued an official statement in this regard. Regular investigation campaigns are being conducted to stop illegal activities. Customs officials also clarified that all travelers returning from foreign trips should declare the valuables or gold they brought with them. Strict legal action will be taken against those who violate the rules.
