New Delhi. A woman returning from Mata Vaishno Devi Katra gave birth to a baby girl in a moving train. With the wisdom and mutual cooperation of the women present in the train, the delivery was done safely. The couple is a resident of Sitoli village in Panna district of Madhya Pradesh. The woman was eight months pregnant and her delivery was premature.
According to railway officials, the incident occurred in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Jabalpur Express (11450). Both husband and wife live and work in Jammu and Kashmir. Following the advice of doctors, the husband was returning to the village with the woman, because delivery could happen at any time.
The train reached Delhi on Friday afternoon, where the woman started feeling mild pain. As soon as she crossed Tughlakabad railway station, the pain suddenly intensified and the woman’s condition started deteriorating. Seeing the condition of his wife, the husband got scared and asked for help from the women present around him. The women present in the coach immediately realized the situation. They understood that the time for delivery had come. After this, with the help of the passengers, space was created around the seats and the remaining people were sent to the other side.
Women collected the sheets, shawls and blankets they had and made a curtain, so that the woman could get privacy. With the help of some experienced women, safe delivery was done in the moving train itself and the woman gave birth to a baby girl. As soon as the delivery was made, the passengers immediately informed the Railways. The train was stopped at Old Faridabad Railway Station. The female staff of Railway Medical reached the spot and examined the mother and the newborn girl. After this, with the help of women policemen of RPF and GRP, the mother and the child were taken to BK Hospital via ambulance. Railway officials said that both the mother and the newborn are completely safe.
