X Accounts: Social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) will now work on the basis of Indian laws and guidelines. ‘X’ has acknowledged that we have made a mistake and will correct it. According to government sources, X has blocked 600 Indian accounts and about 3500 content posts. Last few days, people had raised questions regarding obscene content on Grok, after which MEITY had issued a notice to him. Now X has also accepted his mistake and assured to act as per Indian law and said that no obscene content will be allowed in future.
The Government of India had given time till January 7 to social media company ‘X’ to take action on AI tool ‘Grok’ regarding obscene content. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology asked to submit ATR by January 7. Earlier this date was till January 5 but later it was extended to January 7.
Notice was issued on January 2
The ministry called it a violation of the IT Act and its related rules. Issuing the notice, it was said that people are misusing the AI tool ‘Grok’ on the X platform. Through this, people are creating fake accounts and creating obscene, objectionable and derogatory pictures and videos of women. Which shows the failure of security measures.
Instructions were given to take action within 72 hours
For this, the Ministry had given clear instructions to X that all obscene, indecent and illegal material should be removed from Grok. If this is not done then legal action will be taken. According to the ministry, the exemption of legal protection available under Section 79 of the IT Act is applicable only when the platform follows complete due diligence. For this, it was said to submit the action taken report within 72 hours.
