Delhi. The protests by Congress and its affiliated organizations demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner in the national capital are continuously gaining momentum. Last Tuesday, during the demonstration of National Students Union of India (NSUI), there was a heated clash between the police and the protesters. During this time, the scuffle between NSUI leader Ritu Barala and a woman policeman gained momentum, after which the Congress leaders made serious allegations against the police and opened a front outside Sansad Marg police station and staged a whole night protest demanding registration of FIR against the accused policemen.

Police detained the leaders in the morning

After the dharna and uproar that continued throughout the night, a large team of Delhi Police reached outside Sansad Marg police station at around 4.30 am on Wednesday. The police took action and detained Indian Youth Congress (IYC) national president Udaybhanu Chib, senior leader Srinivas Biwi and several other Congress leaders and NSUI workers and removed them from there.

Sharp attack by Srinivas Biwi and Udaybhanu Chib

After the arrest, Congress leaders expressed their anger at the Central Government and Delhi Police. Former President of the Indian Youth Congress, Srinivas Biwi, made a scathing attack and said that Delhi Police has forgotten that it gets its salary from the taxes of the common people of India and not from the headquarters of any political party. He alleged that at the behest of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, police atrocities have been committed on women workers of NSUI, for which account will definitely be taken when the time comes. At the same time, IYC President Udaybhanu Chib raised the question through social media and statements that what kind of justice is it to arrest those demanding FIR overnight at 4.30 in the morning, and what was the real crime of NSUI workers Ritu Barala and Athira.

Strictness before CJP’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Yatra

Amidst this political turmoil and protests, CJP has announced to take out ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ Yatra in Delhi today. In view of this possible event, the administration has made strict security arrangements in the national capital. However, after this swift action by the police on a large scale against opposition leaders and student activists even before the start of the Yatra, the political atmosphere has become heated and the anger of the Congress leaders is at its peak.
