New Delhi. On one hand, questions are being raised and protests are being seen across the country regarding the Special Intensive Review (SIR) process, on the other hand, the Delhi High Court has provided a big relief to the affected citizens. For those whose names were removed from the voter list during the voter list revision campaign, the way for getting their names added again has become completely clear. The High Court has clarified that citizens whose names have been removed from the list can file applications for re-enrolment without fear of any legal action.
Important stand of the court on filling Form-6 and fear of legal action
In fact, during the SIR process, names of thousands of voters were deleted from the list due to change in address or failure to submit the enumeration form. There was deep confusion and fear among the affected citizens regarding the fact that ‘Form-6’ used for adding a new name is mainly for first-time voters, in which a declaration of non-existence of name has to be made earlier. Voters feared that because they had voted in the past, they might be accused of giving wrong information when filling Form 6. The division bench of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Aditi Choudhary termed this apprehension as completely baseless and said that the applicants need not fear any kind of punitive or legal action.
Online process and method of name revival
After this decision of the High Court, necessary guidelines have also been issued to the administrative machinery of the Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi. Affected citizens can submit their application by filling Form-6 online by visiting the official digital portal of the Election Commission or the website of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer. The court has directed the administrative officers to verify the applications received as per the rules and at a speedy pace and include the names of the eligible citizens again in the voter list.
