New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday stressed that India has to become self-reliant in chip production and a semiconductor ecosystem is being built in the country. PM Modi participated in the foundation stone laying ceremony of the HCL-Foxconn joint venture project, India Chip Pvt Ltd, at the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Uttar Pradesh, through video conferencing.
PM Modi said that the foundation of a developed India will be laid on the basis of self-reliance, for which it is very important to have chips made in India. He said, ‘Developed India will be created only when India is self-reliant. For this the ‘Made in India’ chip is very important. Whatever India is doing in the field of technology in this decade will form the foundation of our capabilities in the 21st century.
UP on its way to becoming a major center of semiconductor: PM Modi
The Prime Minister said that it is a matter of pride that Uttar Pradesh is moving towards becoming a major center of India’s semiconductor system. He said that wherever a semiconductor unit is established, design centers emerge, startup ecosystems develop and innovation accelerates. He also talked about the India AI Impact Summit that concluded today.
What did PM Modi say while mentioning AI Impact Summit?
The Prime Minister said, ‘Today India is progressing rapidly towards its goal of development. I have also said from the Red Fort that India has no time to stop or slow down. India has accelerated its progress since the beginning of 2026 and now this week is also proving to be historic for India. PM Modi said, ‘Heads of state and technology leaders from around the world gathered in Delhi for the AI Summit. In this summit, the world saw India’s AI potential, understood and appreciated our vision.
Late start but rapid progress in semiconductor sector: PM Modi
The Prime Minister said, ‘This decade is the decade of ‘technological revolution’ for India. Whatever India is doing in the field of technology in this decade will become the basis of our strength in the 21st century. India may have started late in the semiconductor sector, but today we are progressing rapidly. He said, ‘India has so far approved 10 semiconductor manufacturing and packaging projects under its Semiconductor Mission. Four of these units are scheduled to start production very soon. India is today making unprecedented investments in every technology that will shape the future of humanity.
