
Chennai. Just before the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, the political turmoil has intensified. Former Chief Minister of the state and expelled AIADMK leader O. Panneerselvam has joined the ruling party DMK today.
Panneerselvam has been the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu three times. He was named after late Chief Minister J. He has been considered to be Jayalalitha’s most trusted commander. He and Edappadi in AIADMK. There was a long leadership struggle between Palaniswami, after which he was expelled from the party.
Political analysts believe that Panneerselvam’s joining DMK may affect the vote bank of South Tamil Nadu. Panneerselvam’s support is considered strong in the Thevar community here.
DMK worker expressed happiness
DMK worker Abhishek has expressed happiness over Panneerselvam joining DMK. Speaking to ANI, he said, ‘This is a wonderful day. People are proving that we are going to form a strong government again. We are strong now and will be even stronger in the future. So, it would be good (the possibility of OPS joining DMK) shows our leadership capability that another (former) Chief Minister can also join us. There is no one to defeat us.
Panneerselvam became Chief Minister thrice
Let us tell you that O. Panneerselvam became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 2001. However, he resigned after just 6 months. After this, in 2014, he took charge of the post of CM of the state for the second time. But this time he could remain on this post only for a month. Panneerselvam became the CM of the state for the third time in 2016, but he resigned once again in 2017.
