Gaurav Gogoi named president of India-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group

Assam Congress President and Lok Sabha member Gaurav Gogoi has been nominated to be the president of the India-Philippines Parliamentary Friendship Group. On his nomination, the Chief Minister of Assam had given a statement that Gogoi should have been given the responsibility related to Pakistan. On this, Gogoi said that there is no need for any serious response to the CM’s statements. Talking to journalists, Gogoi said that instead of making political statements on parliamentary appointments, focus should be on governance and the welfare of the people. He further said that there is no need to take the Chief Minister’s statements seriously. Everything has been explained clearly, and there is no need to give undue importance to such comments. Gogoi said that I am not a person who reacts to every political statement. My responsibility is to the Parliament and the people who elected me. Parliamentary Friendship Groups are formed through a set institutional process and are aimed at strengthening India’s global parliamentary engagement. He further said, “The Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Philippines has been created to enhance cooperation and dialogue between the two democratic countries. This is the responsibility assigned to the Lok Sabha, and I will fulfill it with full sincerity.”
