Heavy snowfall in Sikkim, more than 2700 tourists rescued near Tsomgo Lake

Sikkim It is snowing. Meanwhile, many tourists are stranded near Tsomgo Lake in East Sikkim. Officials said on Wednesday morning that more than 2,700 tourists stranded due to heavy snowfall have been rescued. They said that heavy snowfall in the higher reaches of Sherathang and surrounding areas blocked roads, leaving 541 tourist vehicles stranded between 15th Mile and Tsomgo Lake. He further informed that through coordinated efforts, all the vehicles carrying 2,736 tourists were evacuated in a safe and orderly manner. This campaign ended on Tuesday night. The Tourism Department has advised tourists and tour operators to strictly follow weather warnings. When traveling in snowfall conditions ensure vehicles are properly equipped, which essentially includes snow chains.
