New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and congratulated the Indian contingent, which performed brilliantly in the 20th Asian Games (Asian Games 2026) held from 19 September to 4 October 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Thursday evening. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was also specially present on this occasion.

India’s historic performance in Asian Games

This time in the Asian Games, India has secured fourth place in the medal table by securing a total of 85 medals. These medals include 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze medals. This is the second consecutive time that India has made its place among the top five countries of the Asian Games, which shows the growing strength of the country in the world of sports. The largest ever contingent of 501 players was sent by India to this prestigious competition, out of which 310 players were participating in the Asian Games for the first time. The participation of such a large contingent is a clear proof of the growing scope of Indian sports and the emergence of new talent. Indian players performed particularly commendably in archery, boxing, wrestling and various team events.

Conversation between players and Prime Minister

Apart from the athletes, their coaches, support staff, officials of the Indian Olympic Association, representatives of national sports federations and officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports participated in this special interaction program with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this, along with the Indian men’s and women’s cricket teams, the Indian men’s hockey team also presented their special jerseys to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister appreciated the success of all the players and encouraged them for future competitions.
