Kept making fake online payments after staying in hotel for 6 months, bank statement exposed

Sent screenshot to manager to pay bill of Rs 6 lakh, police arrested the accused

Gurugram. A 26-year-old young man, who has an MCA degree, stayed in a luxurious hotel in the city for about five months without paying a single penny. While leaving the hotel, he had sent screenshots of the fake payment for paying a bill of more than Rs 6 lakh to the hotel staff. The police have arrested the accused youth. Police said that when the hotel management later checked its bank statement, no money was credited to the account. After this an FIR was registered and the accused was arrested.
According to the police, the accused Himanshu (26), resident of Sohna, has a postgraduate degree in computer applications. He was working to promote a YouTube channel on My Fame app. According to the complaint given to the police by the operator of a hotel and service apartment located on Golf Course Road in DLF Phase 5, Himanshu was living in the hotel since October 2025. Till February 24, the accused made 16 payments to the operator as accommodation charges and shared screenshots of each payment on WhatsApp, but all these payments turned out to be fraud. In the complaint given by the hotel to the police, it is written that when the hotel’s bank account was checked, it was found that no payment was made. Himanshu was asked for his bank statement, but he refused to give it and left the hotel on 24 February.
The complainant has alleged that Himanshu was billed Rs 6.17 lakh for hotel stay, out of which nothing was paid. Following the complaint, an FIR was registered and the police arrested Himanshu from DLF Phase 5 area on Wednesday. According to the police, during interrogation, the accused told that he had found a video on YouTube about a fake PhonePe app. It showed how someone could make a fake payment and make it appear as if the money had been credited to the receiver’s account.
According to media reports, Gurugram Police said that he installed a fake PhonePe app, in which only the scanner works, while all other features are inactive. He stayed in the hotel from October 2025 to February 2026 and sent screenshots of 16 false transactions to the hotel manager and defrauded more than Rs 6 lakh. Police said that the mobile phone of the accused has been seized and further investigation is underway. The accused was produced before a city court on Thursday, which sent him to judicial custody.
