The event is taking place a day after the high-profile inauguration of Guwahati’s nature-themed airport terminal. This step of the Prime Minister in this industrial center of Upper Assam is being considered as a strong signal towards regional industrial self-reliance.
Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will also be present on this occasion. This ambitious project is being developed by Assam Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited and is being counted among the largest industrial investments in the history of Assam. The Assam government has 40 percent equity stake in this project, which is considered to be the state’s largest participation till date.
Namrup Fertilizer Project It is being carried out in collaboration with major public sector undertakings like National Fertilizers Limited, Oil India Limited and Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited. After completion of the project, 12.7 lakh metric tonnes of urea will be produced annually. This production is specifically designed to meet the fertilizer needs of the North-Eastern states, thereby reducing dependence on other states.
Extensive preparations have been made for the Prime Minister’s visit. The temporary helipad built for his arrival has been successfully tested. The administration is preparing for a huge public meeting, which is expected to be attended by more than 1.24 lakh people.
