Apple AirTag 2: Launching with 50% more range and Precision Finding on Apple Watch

Apple has officially refreshed its best-selling item tracker. Launched on January 26, 2026, the AirTag 2 introduces the most significant hardware upgrades since the original’s debut in 2021, focusing on a more powerful “findability” suite and deeper integration with the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The Gen 2 Ultra Wideband (UWB) Chip

At the heart of the AirTag 2 is Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip (the same silicon found in the iPhone 17 series). This enables Precision Finding from up to 50% farther away than the original. For users, this means your phone can pick up the signal from a different room or floor with much greater accuracy.

Key New Features:

  • Precision Finding on Apple Watch: For the first time, users can use the “Directional Arrow” interface directly on an Apple Watch Series 9 or later. This is a game-changer for finding keys while your hands are full or your phone is in another room.

  • 2x Louder Speaker: The internal design has been overhauled to be 50% louder, making it much easier to hear the “chime” when it’s buried deep inside a sofa or a heavy suitcase.

  • Share Item Location: A new iOS feature allows you to securely share an AirTag’s location with third parties—like airline customer service—to help recover lost luggage faster.

Pricing and India Availability

In India, the AirTag 2 is priced at ₹3,790 for a single pack and ₹12,900 for a four-pack. It maintains the same user-replaceable CR2032 battery design, though with improved power efficiency that aims to stretch the battery life beyond the typical 12-month mark.
