RCB vs CSK: Tim David’s Power-Hitting Masterclass Propels Bengaluru to Top of the Table

BENGALURU – In a high-stakes encounter at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) delivered a statement victory, defeating the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs. The win not only handed CSK their third consecutive loss of the season but also catapulted RCB to the top of the IPL 2026 points table, as they remain one of the few undefeated teams in the early stages of the tournament.

The Tim David Show

After being put in to bat, RCB posted a humongous 250/3, the highest total of the season so far. The fireworks were provided by Tim David, who played an innings for the ages. Coming in at a crucial juncture, David hammered an unbeaten 70 off just 25 balls, a knock punctuated by 8 monstrous sixes, including a 106-meter strike that cleared the stadium roof. David credited his clinical finishing to the guidance of batting coach Dinesh Karthik, noting that their training “competitions” to hit balls onto the roof have translated perfectly into match-day dominance.

Foundation and Milestones

The massive total was built on solid groundwork. Phil Salt (46) and Virat Kohli (28) provided a brisk start, followed by a steadying 50 from Devdutt Padikkal. However, it was the unbeaten 99-run partnership between David and captain Rajat Patidar (48 off 19 balls)* that truly took the game away from Chennai.

On the bowling front, the legendary Bhuvneshwar Kumar etched his name in the history books. Leading the RCB attack, the “Swing King” finished with figures of 3/41, in the process becoming the first fast bowler in IPL history to reach 200 wickets. His milestone wicket of Ayush Mhatre was a rare highlight for the bowling side on a night dominated by the bat.

CSK’s Struggles Continue

Chasing 251, CSK’s reply never found the necessary momentum. Sarfaraz Khan fought a lonely battle with a quickfire 50 off 25 balls, while Prashant Veer (43) and Jamie Overton (37) provided late resistance. However, disciplined spells from Suyash Sharma (1/21) and Krunal Pandya ensured CSK were bowled out for 207.

With this victory, RCB sits comfortably at the summit with a superior Net Run Rate, while the defending champions, CSK, find themselves anchored at the bottom of the table, searching for answers as the league stage intensifies.
