CUPERTINO — While Apple is currently rolling out iOS 26.4.1, internal focus has shifted entirely to iOS 27, the software set to power the upcoming iPhone 18 and Apple’s first foldable device. Leaks from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and MacRumors suggest that iOS 27 will be the “Snow Leopard” of the AI era—a release focused on massive performance optimizations and a ground-up reconstruction of Siri.

The headline feature of iOS 27 is the transition of Siri from a voice assistant into a full-scale AI chatbot, reportedly built on a foundation that integrates Google’s Gemini models alongside Apple’s own on-device intelligence.
The Siri Redesign: “Search or Ask”
The new Siri is expected to move away from the glowing orb interface in favor of a more integrated experience within the Dynamic Island.
-
Standalone Siri App: For the first time, Siri will reportedly have its own dedicated app, similar to ChatGPT or Gemini. Users can view conversation histories, analyze uploaded files, and interact with the assistant via a text-based “Ask” bar.
-
On-Screen Awareness: Siri will finally be able to “see” what you are doing. If you’re looking at a photo or a document, you can ask, “Summarize this” or “Send this to Sachin,” and the assistant will understand the context without further explanation.
-
Multi-Step Commands: A long-requested feature is finally arriving. You can now issue complex strings like: “Check my email for the flight details, add it to my calendar, and then text the arrival time to my wife.”
Apple Intelligence 2.0 Tools
Beyond Siri, iOS 27 is introducing a suite of “Visual Intelligence” tools designed to make the iPhone more proactive.
| Feature | Functionality |
| Extensions Marketplace | Allows third-party AI tools (like Claude or Gemini) to plug directly into Siri’s framework. |
| AI Health Pro | Analyzes nutrition labels via the camera to automatically log calories and macros into the Health app. |
| Smart Undo/Redo | A system-wide AI-driven “time machine” for the Home Screen, allowing you to easily revert design changes. |
| Intelligent Shortcuts | Uses natural language to build complex automations—no coding or “building” required. |
The “iPhone Fold” Optimization
With Apple’s first foldable (the iPhone Ultra) expected this September, iOS 27 will introduce Dual-App Multitasking. This feature allows users to run two full-sized apps side-by-side when the device is unfolded, complete with an “App Dock” that mimics the iPadOS experience
Release Timeline & Compatibility
Apple is expected to officially unveil iOS 27 during the WWDC 2026 Keynote on June 8.
-
Developer Beta: June 8, 2026.
-
Public Beta: July 2026.
-
Stable Release: Mid-September 2026.
Expected Compatibility Cutoff: Early reports suggest that iOS 27 may drop support for the iPhone 11 series and the iPhone SE (2nd Gen), making the iPhone 12 the new baseline for Apple’s mobile ecosystem.
As the tech world prepares for June, it’s clear that Apple is no longer just “adding” AI features—it is rebuilding the core of the iPhone experience around a more conversational, aware, and integrated intelligence.
