Samsung is wasting no time in iterating on its latest wearable category. Leaks from the South Korean platform Naver suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Ring 2 is already in advanced testing, with a focus on making the device “invisible” while adding the one feature users missed most in the original: NFC Payments.
The “Slim” Profile and Solid-State Battery
The first-generation Galaxy Ring was praised for its comfort, but the Ring 2 is set to be even thinner. Leaks indicate a thickness reduction from 2.6mm to just 2.0mm, making it one of the slimmest smart rings in the world. This is reportedly achieved by using a Solid-State Battery, which offers higher energy density in a smaller footprint, potentially pushing battery life past the 10-day mark.
“Wave-to-Pay” Integration
The most functional upgrade is the inclusion of an ultra-low-power NFC chip. Dubbed “Wave-to-Pay,” this allows users to make contactless payments at any Samsung Pay-enabled terminal by simply tapping or waving their finger near the reader. By adding financial utility to its health-tracking capabilities, Samsung is positioning the Ring 2 as a total replacement for both a fitness tracker and a wallet, all in a device that looks like a simple wedding band.
