The follow-up to 2024’s most talked-about (and criticized) AI gadget is reportedly around the corner. Leaks surrounding the Rabbit R2 suggest that Jesse Lyu and his team have taken the “barely reviewable” feedback to heart, pivoting from a quirky novelty to a robust, standalone 5G device designed to actually compete with the smartphone in your pocket.
The “All-Seeing” Rotatable Camera
The R2’s most striking leaked feature is a motorized, 360-degree rotatable camera module. While the R1 had a manual “Rabbit Eye,” the R2’s camera is rumored to use AI to automatically track objects or faces during a conversation.
This hardware is paired with a new “Visual Action Model” (VAM). Unlike the previous Large Action Model (LAM) that primarily navigated web interfaces, the VAM can reportedly interpret live video feeds to perform complex real-world tasks—such as identifying a broken part on a bicycle and automatically finding a YouTube repair tutorial or ordering the specific replacement part via Amazon.
Standalone 5G and Perplexity Pro
To solve the connectivity lag that plagued the original, the R2 will feature a dedicated Snapdragon 5G modem. This moves the device away from being a “tethered accessory” to a true standalone communicator.
-
Enhanced Memory: Leaks point to 8GB of RAM and a much faster processor to handle on-device AI processing, reducing the “thinking” delay significantly.
-
Perplexity Deep Research: The R2 will reportedly be the first mobile device to integrate Perplexity’s “Deep Research” mode natively, allowing for complex, multi-step web queries that summarize hours of research into a single spoken response.
