The Jammu and Kashmir administration today officially announced the schedule for the annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, following a high-level meeting of the Shrine Board, confirmed that the 57-day pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine in the south Kashmir Himalayas will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festival of Raksha Bandhan. This year’s yatra is set to be one of the longest in recent history, reflecting the improved security situation and enhanced logistical infrastructure in the Union Territory.

Registration and Eligibility Guidelines

Mandatory advance registration for the yatra will open on April 15 through both online portals and 556 designated bank branches across the country, including SBI, PNB, and ICICI Bank. The authorities have strictly fixed the age limit for pilgrims between 13 and 70 years. A crucial requirement this year is the Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC), which must be issued by authorized medical professionals on or after April 8, 2026. The registration fee has been maintained at a nominal ₹150 to ensure accessibility for devotees from all economic backgrounds.

Security and High-Altitude Logistics

Given the shrine’s location at an altitude of 3,880 meters, the administration has emphasized “health-first” protocols. The yatra will proceed via the traditional 48-km Nunwan-Pahalgam route and the shorter 14-km Baltal track. To ensure safety, the entire route will be monitored using RFID tracking, and multi-layered security cordons will be established by the Indian Army and CRPF. Additionally, specialized high-altitude medical camps with oxygen cylinders and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are being set up at every 2-kilometer interval to assist pilgrims struggling with the thin mountain air.
