Umang App 2026 Update: 50 New Government Services Integrated

The Digital India initiative has reached a new milestone as the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) officially rolled out the Umang App 2026 Update. Known as the “Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance,” the app has integrated 50 brand-new services, bringing the total number of accessible government facilities to over 2,200. This update is specifically designed to reduce physical footfall at government offices and streamline the administrative experience for citizens in both urban and rural India.

Focus on Healthcare and Education

A significant portion of the new services focuses on the Ayushman Bharat and ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account) ecosystems. Users can now book OPD appointments at all AIIMS and district hospitals directly through Umang, download their digital health records, and apply for medical insurance claims in real-time. For students, the 2026 update introduces a “Digi-Scholarship” portal that automatically matches a student’s profile with available state and central scholarships, simplifying the application process to a single click.

The “AI-Sathi” Multilingual Assistant

To make the app more accessible to the non-tech-savvy population, Umang 2026 debuts “AI-Sathi,” a voice-driven AI assistant powered by Bhashini. AI-Sathi supports 22 official Indian languages, allowing users to speak naturally to find services. For example, a farmer in Madhya Pradesh can simply ask in Hindi, “When will the next PM-Kisan installment be credited?” and the app will navigate to the relevant status page and read out the details.

New Services for Entrepreneurs

For small business owners and startups, the update includes:

  • Udyam 2.0 Registration: Instant MSME registration with digital certificate issuance.

  • GST Quick-Pay: A simplified interface for small taxpayers to file Nil returns and pay monthly dues without navigating the complex GST portal.

  • GeM (Government e-Marketplace) Lite: A mobile-first version for local artisans to list their products for government procurement.

Security and Performance

Safety remains a priority with the introduction of Passkey support and biometric-only logins, moving away from the vulnerable SMS-based OTP system. The app has also undergone a core architectural overhaul, making it 40% faster on low-end 5G devices and ensuring it consumes minimal data—a crucial feature for users in remote areas.

With the 2026 update, the Umang app is no longer just a directory of links; it has evolved into a comprehensive digital concierge for every Indian citizen. As the government moves toward a “Mobile-First” governance model, Umang stands at the forefront of this administrative revolution.
