NEW DELHI – The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, the organizing body for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026, has officially released the digital scorecards for all 30 papers. While the results were announced earlier, the activation of the scorecard download link has triggered a massive wave of activity among engineering graduates looking to secure positions in India’s top Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
The PSU Recruitment Surge
In 2026, the demand for GATE-qualified engineers has reached a five-year high. Major PSUs, including ONGC, GAIL, NTPC, and IOCL, have already issued notifications for executive trainee positions, with many linking their shortlisting process directly to the 2026 GATE scores.
According to recruitment experts, the push toward Green Energy and Digital Infrastructure has led to a specific spike in vacancies for Electrical, Civil, and Computer Science Engineering graduates. “A high GATE score is currently more valuable than ever because PSUs are looking for technical mastery to lead their transition into automated and sustainable operations,” noted a senior recruitment consultant.
Understanding Your Scorecard
The GATE 2026 scorecard is valid for three years from the date of announcement. It contains two critical figures:

GATE Marks: The actual marks obtained out of 100.

GATE Score: A normalized score out of 1,000, which is used for comparing performance across different years and papers.
Candidates are advised to download and print multiple copies of their scorecards, as they are mandatory for both PSU interviews and M.Tech admissions through the Centralized Counselling for M.Tech/M.Arch/M.Plan (CCMT).
M.Tech and Research Opportunities
Beyond corporate recruitment, the release of scorecards has set the stage for admissions into IITs, NITs, and IISc. This year, there is a visible trend of students opting for specialized interdisciplinary programs such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Technology, and Robotics. The high cut-offs for these courses suggest that the competition for research-oriented roles remains fierce among the top 5% of rank holders.
Validation and Authenticity
To prevent fraud, each GATE 2026 scorecard comes with a secure, encrypted QR code. Recruiter agencies and universities can verify the authenticity of the scorecard instantly by scanning it through the official GATE portal.
IIT Roorkee has clarified that scorecards will only be available for download until May 31, 2026, for free. After this date, candidates will have to pay a nominal fee to retrieve their records.
