MUMBAI – With the JEE Main results acting as the final filter, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the organizing body for 2026, has officially released the registration schedule for JEE Advanced 2026. This marks the beginning of the final and most grueling stage for the top 2.5 lakh engineering aspirants vying for a seat in one of the 23 prestigious IITs across India.
Key Registration Dates
The registration window is set to open on April 22, 2026, just two days after the declaration of the JEE Main Session 2 results. Candidates will have a narrow window to complete their applications, with the deadline currently set for April 28, 2026. The fee payment portal will remain active until April 29 to accommodate last-minute transactions.
Eligibility and Documentation
To register, candidates must fall within the top 2,50,000 rank holders (including all categories) in the JEE Main Paper 1. IIT Delhi has emphasized that candidates must upload high-resolution digital copies of the following:

Class 10 and Class 12 certificates.

Category certificates (OBC-NCL, EWS, SC, ST, PwD), if applicable.

Changes in 2026
This year, the “Road to IIT” includes a new Digital Mock Test Series integrated into the registration portal. Once a candidate completes their registration, they will gain access to three full-length simulated exams based on the 2026 pattern, which emphasizes multi-correct and numerical-grid type questions.
The 20% Rule
IIT Delhi has also clarified the “Top 20 Percentile” rule. Candidates who do not meet the 75% aggregate criteria in their respective boards can still qualify for IIT admission if they fall within the top 20 percentile of successful candidates in their specific Board examination. This provides a vital safety net for students from boards with traditionally stricter marking schemes.
Preparation Phase
As the registration commences, coaching hubs from Kota to Hyderabad are shifting gears toward “Advanced-only” modules. The JEE Advanced 2026 exam is scheduled to take place on May 17, 2026, consisting of two mandatory three-hour papers.
“The transition from Mains to Advanced is about depth, not speed,” noted a senior IIT faculty member. “We are looking for students who can apply fundamental physics and calculus to unsolved, complex problems.”
