CUPERTINO – The tech world is buzzing today as the most substantial leak regarding Apple’s long-rumored foldable smartphone has surfaced. Leaked dummy units, widely circulated by industry insider Sonny Dickson, offer a first physical look at what is being called the iPhone Fold (or potentially the iPhone Ultra). The leaks confirm a radical departure from the “tall and thin” foldable standard, revealing a shorter, wider form factor that more closely resembles a compact notebook or a folding iPad Mini.
The “Zero-Feel” 3D-Printed Hinge
One of the most significant technical revelations involves the device’s hinge mechanism. According to reports from supply chain analysts in China, Apple is utilizing “chip-level high-molecular 3D printing technology” to manufacture the hinge components. This precision manufacturing process is designed to solve the industry’s biggest hurdle: the screen crease.
By using 3D-printed titanium and liquid polymer, Apple reportedly aims to achieve a “zero-feel” crease that is virtually invisible to the eye and touch. This 3D printing approach allows for microscopic adjustments in hinge depth that traditional forging cannot match, potentially giving the iPhone Fold the most durable and seamless folding display on the market.
Dimensions and Display
The dummy units suggest a 5.5-inch outer display and a massive 7.8-inch internal screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. When unfolded, the device is rumored to be incredibly thin—measuring just 4.5mm—which would make it Apple’s thinnest hardware to date. To maintain structural integrity at such a slim profile, the frame is expected to be a hybrid of Titanium and Aluminum.
Notably, the leaked dummies show a notch-less front design, fueling speculation that Apple has successfully integrated an under-display camera or relocated the Face ID sensors. However, some leaks suggest that due to the thinness of the frame, Apple may pivot to a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button, similar to the iPad Air.
