Tehran/New Delhi: Following diplomatic engagements between India and Iran, Tehran has confirmed that Indian-flagged vessels will be allowed safe passage through the strategic Strait of Hormuz. This comes amid regional tensions and concerns over shipping security in the vital energy corridor.
Sources from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said the assurance from Iran is a “significant step” to protect India’s energy interests. The development follows high-level discussions between Indian officials and Iranian authorities aimed at ensuring uninterrupted supply of LPG and crude oil to India.
Officials noted that India has maintained a neutral and friendly stance in regional conflicts, which has helped secure cooperation from Tehran. The agreement also reinforces India’s position as a reliable partner for energy trade in West Asia.
Industry experts welcomed the clarification, highlighting that uninterrupted passage through Hormuz is crucial for India’s energy security, especially for LPG imports that support household and industrial demand across the country.
The MEA emphasized that Indian sailors and cargo are being closely monitored and that safety protocols remain in place while transiting conflict-prone regions. Authorities also assured that contingency measures are ready to respond to any unforeseen developments.
