PATNA – The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has once again made history by becoming one of the first major boards in the country to declare and celebrate its Matric (Class 10) results. This year, the narrative is not just about the high pass percentage, but about the incredible resilience of students from rural districts who have dominated the state merit list.
Excellence from the Grassroots
The 2026 toppers list is a testament to the changing educational landscape in Bihar. Over 70% of the top 20 rank holders hail from non-urban backgrounds, many of whom attended government-run schools and utilized the state’s “BSEB Online Pathshala” initiative to supplement their studies.

Aman Kumar (Rank 1): Hailing from a small village in Jamui, Aman scored a near-perfect 492/500. The son of a local farmer, he credited his success to a strict 10-hour study schedule and free digital resources provided by the board.

Sneha Kumari (Rank 2): A student from Rohtas, Sneha overcame significant financial hurdles to secure 489/500. She aims to join the civil services to improve education infrastructure in her district.

The Rigor of the Topper Verification Process
To maintain the high standards and credibility that BSEB has worked hard to establish over the last decade, the board continued its unique Physical Verification Process. Before the results were made public, the top 50 potential scorers were invited to the Patna headquarters. A panel of subject experts interviewed them to ensure their depth of knowledge matched their answer scripts. This process includes handwriting verification and a brief oral examination, effectively eliminating any doubts regarding the authenticity of the scores.
Infrastructure and Reform
The 2026 results saw an overall pass percentage of 84.5%, a steady rise attributed to the “Simultala Model” of education being replicated in various districts. The board’s use of pre-filled OMR sheets and barcoded answer books has significantly reduced human error during the tabulation phase, allowing for these lightning-fast declarations.
BSEB Chairman Anand Kishore stated, “Our goal was to empower every student in Bihar, regardless of their PIN code. These toppers are not just symbols of academic success; they are symbols of a new Bihar that is confident and digitally savvy.”
